The Canberra auction price record has been set by a home in Red Hill which sold under the hammer for $5.85 million.

It was <a href="https://www.realestate.com.au/property-house-act-red+hill-132279254" target="_blank">set on the pricey Mugga Way</a> which is the home to some of Canberra's most expensive residences.

The property was bought by a local ACT family who first saw the home at the premarket VIP viewing.

The mid 1930s-built English manor-style home with dormer windows, high ceilings and French doors is surrounded by landscaped gardens. It has five bedrooms and four bathrooms.

A three car garage with 460 bottle wine cellar sits separately from the main residence. Upstairs there's a games room and a self-contained one bedroom apartment. 

In the vast 5,110 sqm grounds is a 16 metre swimming pool with a conservatory like pool house and a full size tennis court.

Peter Blackshaw agents Mario Sanfrancesco and Andrew Chamberlain secured the sale.

The property was trading for the first time in over three decades.

“The home presented a rare opportunity to buyers – it’s not often that a home of this calibre, set on a large 5,110sqm block comes to market – nonetheless, backing onto Red Hill Nature Reserve”, Sanfrancesco added.

“Buyers looking for this calibre of property are quite particular in their requirements.

When they find a property that meets those requirements, they are willing to act quickly - so marketing campaigns at this level need to create both impact and urgency.”

Sanfrancesco said the number of purchasers at the top end of the market is increasing.

"The national capital is undoubtedly one of the steadiest markets in the nation – underpinned by the strongest real estate economy in capital city Australia," Ryder suggests. 

The sale broke the previous record which was set two years ago when Luton Properties sold a home on Deakin's Hotham Crescent for $5.75 million.

Canberra's auction record broken with $5.85 million Red Hill sale

Supercar driver Liam Talbot and original Hi-5 star Charli Robinson have paid a suburb record $5.1 million for a new home in Chandler.

The home, in the south-east of Brisbane, was built in 2018 on its one hectare block after the former home sold for $1.4 million in 2013.

The new home, dubbed the James Bond House, comes with a 16 car garage.

The home toppled the former Chandler record, set last year when an Archer Street home sold for $4.03 million.

Supercar driver Liam Talbot buys record $5.1 million Chandler home

Joshua Chan, the 45 year old founder of an online gambling review website, Joshua Chan, has been pinpointed as the mystery weekend auction buyer of the $20.1 million Bondi Beach apartment.

It was the penthouse offered by hardware company director James Mayo.

The penthouse ranks as the most expensive apartment ever sold under the hammer in Australia.

Chan's purchase was more than $3 million higher than the auction reserve.

Chan is the founder of online gambling review site LCB (Latest Casino Bonuses) which has more than 145,000 members who get advised on good and bad gambling websites. 

Chan founded it in 2006 with the aim to educate online gamblers.

His partner Melanie Attwell is its marketing manager.

Sydney had the nation's top auction result on the weekend prior to Christmas when a record $10.55 million was secured for a triplex at South Coogee through Sotheby's International.

Agent Michael Pallier noted there were 13 registered bidders with the buyer being a local family.

The oceanfront art deco 1940s building at 1 Wolseley Rd had last traded in 1989 at $776,000.

It was offered by the family of Selina Corkhill, the head of investment banking at the Sydney branch of the Bank of China, and widow of architect Tony Corkhill.

South Coogee's previous highest sale was in November last year at $9.8 million for a contemporary four level mansion which sold to find manager Duncan Saville. 

There was a recent sale at Coogee at $12.85 million when the venture capitalist, Marc Marano, bought on Gordons Bay, known as Sydney’s Little Amalfi Coast.

Marano left his family’s inner Sydney estate agency Oxford Agency five years ago to join the fitness franchise F45, and moved to the US two years ago to lead its expansion.

The off market sale bettered the Coogee suburb record by $3.85 million, set six years ago at $9 million.

South Coogee trophy 1940s art deco triplex sells for $10.55 million

There's whispers the Elsternwick-based Kogan founder Ruslan Kogan has paid a record $38.8 million Toorak house price.
The Herald Sun reported the sale occurred at a private off-market auction last Thursday night.
Three parties were involved in the auction, with Kogan.com founder and chief executive Ruslan Kogan taking the keys to the three block, 2,600 sqm property.
Marshall White agents Marcus Chiminello and Richard Mackinnon reportedly secured the sale, but declined to comment.
The reputed off market $38.8 million price doesn't make the cut as the Melbourne record as that was likely secured with the yet to settle <a href="https://www.urban.com.au/news/80726-malvern-s-stonington-sets-victorian-price-record" target="_blank">$52.5 million sale by art dealer Rod Menzies</a> for his mansion Stonington in Malvern.
The seller of the French-inspired sandstone mansion was telecommunications investor Philip Cornish.
The Toorak record stood at <a href="https://www.urban.com.au/news/74879-the-40-million-toorak-trophy-home-sale-confirmed" target="_blank">$38 million for 18 St Georges Road.</a>
The AFR reported the latest record price did not meet the initial off market $45 million asking price.

Record $38.8 million Toorak sale to Ruslan Kogan

Tech billionaire Mike Cannon-Brookes and his wife Annie have bought Australia’s most expensive house, the harbour front Fairwater at Double Bay, ending more than a century of Fairfax family ownership.
“We are delighted with the purchase of Fairwater for our young family and look forward to continuing the legacy of this beautiful Sydney home,” Cannon-Brookes said.
It took just three weeks for the 1.12 hectare estate to sell.
The price has not been revealed since its sale last night, but it was expected to fetch somewhere between the $71 million paid next door to close to $100 million.
The sale coincides with a visit to Sydney from the US by Cannon-Brookes.

The billionaire was always tipped to be its likely buyer, and not just because Sydney estate agents had pinpointed his American wife as keen for an Australian trophy home.

His business partner Scott Farquhar paid $71 million next-door for Elaine on Seven Shillings Beach last year, which took three years to sell.
There was no formal website marketing for the home that dates back to 1881, but interested parties were being taken through the landmark home by Christie's International agent Ken Jacobs.
Last November when Fairwater was tipped as likely to come to market this year, Mike Cannon-Brookes was ranked as a likely prospect to secure the prized offering in an article in the Weekend Australian's Mansion Australia magazine.

He recently sold his Braelin, his Centennial Park trophy, for $16.5 million.
“Elaine and Fairwater are the golden girls of Sydney Harbour,” Jacobs said earlier this month.
The Atlassian co-founders' wealth is pegged at a combined $6 billion.
Atlassian was founded in 2002 using $10,000 in credit card debt.
“We love the idea of raising our four young children in this historic property, filling the house and gardens with love and laughter through the years," the Cannon-Brookes said.
Australia's most expensive home has hit the market which has reignited the optimistic obsession about a $100 million sale.
The Double Bay offering by the executors of the late Lady (Mary) Fairfax had been in the Fairfax media dynasty family since 1901 when Sir James Oswald Fairfax paid £5,350.
The two-storey, late Victorian mansion - which was designed by architect J. Horbury Hunt for stockbroker, Francis Joseph in 1881, is set on five subdividable blocks on exclusive Seven Shillings Beach. 
Elaine is a 6,900 square metre land holding, with Fairwater ranked  as the largest privately-owned harbour side landholding, spanning 11,210 sqm.
"Fairwater represents an extraordinary opportunity to acquire Australia’s most desirable residential holding," Jacobs said.
"The property’s appeal reflects its unquestionable position as Australia’s most revered and significant home. 
"It is remarkable that an estate offering such rare and unrepeatable features still exists in Australia today; this opportunity will not come again."

The Raby Bay, Brisbane home designed for Savage Garden's Daniel Jones, has sold for a bayside record $8.5 million. 
It topped the former record, from Bulimba, where a <a href="https://www.urban.com.au/expert-insights/buying/104186-bulimba-riverfront-takes-brisbane-auction-record-mantle" target="_blank">McConnell Street home sold for $8.4 million at auction</a> just under a year ago.
The <a href="https://www.realestate.com.au/property-house-qld-raby+bay-133914942" target="_blank">Raby Bay home at 32 Sentinel Court</a> was architecturally designed and built in 2004 for Jones, who sold it for $5.8 million in 2006.

Brisbane's Raby Bay sets Bayside record with $8.5 million sale

Lannan Eacott, the 25 year old gamer better known as LazarBeam, has broken the Clovelly house price record.

He's spent $9.9 million on a <a href="https://www.realestate.com.au/sold/property-house-nsw-clovelly-133592762" target="_blank">five bedroom home near the beach</a>.

It was built just two years ago after the old original property traded for $3,615,000 in 2016.

Set on 455 sqm and spanning three levels, the home was built atop a natural sandstone base and was designed to withstand the elements, and take advantage of its panoramic views.

Douglas Kay Sunshine’s Peter Kay said the price eclipsed the suburb’s earlier May record of $1 million, set when the agency sold <a href="https://www.realestate.com.au/sold/property-house-vic-sunshine+north-122389922" target="_blank">17 Taniyah Place</a>.

Nestled in a private enclave of 13 houses, the home on 1,050 sqm sold for a suburb record when it sold in 2005 for $1.88 million.

CoreLogic suggests the previous record was $2.54 million in 2015, with a development site fetching $3.6 million in 2012.
