The Australia and New Zealand Bank has a list of more than 50 postcodes, concentrated around Western Australia, Queensland and NSW mining towns, that it describes as "not acceptable" for providing lenders mortgage insurance.

The number of postcodes has increased from 30 in 2013.

Last year June it emerged ANZ required a deposit of at least 30 percent for mortgages in 44 postcodes, including to reflect the “localised downturn in a small number of towns dependent on the mining sector”.

"We regularly review lending policies to ensure we are operating within our risk appetite and practising responsible lending for our customers," a spokesman told The Australian Financial Review this week.

"There are no designated 'blackspots'," he added. The AFR published a selection of the 50 postcodes.
