A contemporary transformation of an original character cottage in Leederville sold for $1.71 million last weekend, the most expensive sale across Western Australia.

Its traditional features include a wide bullnosed verandah with turned timber posts, high ornate ceilings, restored jarrah floors and a stained glass leadlight front door.

The contemporary extension comes with a thermal efficient architectural design and a 9.4 star energy rating.

Three bedrooms lie off the traditional hallway at the front of the home.

A sitting room comes with a restored Federation fireplace and floor to ceiling bookcases.

Abel Property Leederville agent Adam Marchant sold the home.

It last traded for $1.12 million in 2015.
