Mark McLoughlin, co-owner of Balmoral's Public Dining Room in Balmoral, has sold his nearby family home for $5.5 million.

There were three registered bidders at its Saturday auction.

The restaurateur paid $3,017,500 for the five bedroom Mosman home in 2004.

Spread over three levels on 554 sqm, the home features a grand reception hall, a large cellar and a pergola covered alfresco terrace and cabana amid parterre gardens.

The McLoughlin's renovated the home, installing a new kitchen and opening up the living areas.

They updated the second level to make the most of the views over Middle Harbour and through The Heads.
