Businessman Basil Mcilhagga, the Hong Kong-based CEO of mining giant Stibium Group, pulled his long-held Paddington home from its recent auction.

It came with $5.5 million hopes, and a $6 million asking price in the days after the scheduled pre-Easter auction.

Mcilhagga's first purchase was a 300 square metre landholding which had a three bedroom terrace. He paid $540,000 back in 1992.

Seven years later he paid $360,000 for the 120 square metre next door.

Now the Caledonia Street property comprises a main house and an adjoining cottage.

The main residence has three bedrooms, two marble bathrooms and an entertainers' terrace with swimming pool.

The cottage has two bedrooms.

Bradfield Cleary agents Bob Guth and Georgie Cleary have the listing.

Another multi-lot Caledonia Street offering from cosmetic surgeon Alia Nasser and her dentist husband Nasser Elhage fetched $7.7 million last weekend, having had $7.5 million hopes through Ben Collier at The Agency.

The couple bought the 450-square-metre property with a central courtyard and swimming pool for $4,779,000 million in 2013, plus a car space across the road with a one bedroom unit.

It comprised three dwellings on three titles.
