Car dealer Neville "Croaky" Crichton has onsold his Point Piper trophy home.

It has reportedly sold just six months after his mis-step when it came to his desired downsize.

He secured around $36 million from a local buyer having paid $33 million when it was bought from Karyn Zamel, the wife of mining engineer Gary Zamel in March.

The keen yachtsman married Nadi Hasandedic in May.

Crichton is likely to buy off-water.

Crichton's $33 million purchase incurred stamp duty of $2.25 million.

Woollahra Council records show he recently renovated it with internal walls moved and new air-conditioning for the home.

Crichton's purchase replaced his larger waterfront on nearby Wingadal Place that sold for $60.66 million last November to Chinese stocktrader Andy Wenlei Song.

It sold to the Zamels in 2005 for $20.6 million.

The three-level residence was designed by architect Richard Christian for the late private equity boss Leonard Green and his former wife, the LA-based expat film producer Emese Tardy-Green.
