Adelaide trophy house sold for $960,000
A historic house in Adelaide sold for $960,000 at weekend auction.
Located at 55 Symonds Place, the 1860 Victorian home has been listed on the SA Heritage Register.
More than 60 people lined the small street off South Terrace for the auction, which opened at modest bid of $800,000.
The successful bidders became the ninth family to own the 1860s home.
It then came down to two prospective buyers before going under the hammer for $960,000.
The new owner said she planned to rent out the property to allow time to develop plans for adding new touches to the historic home.
“I kept thinking we weren’t going to get it,” she told the local paper.
“We’ve been speaking to State Heritage to see what we actually can do to it.”
They plan to demolish the current extension to build outwards and upwards.
“We want to maintain all the original character,” the new owner said.
Featuring original high ornate ceilings with Victorian Coves and ceiling roses as well as a central hallway with Gothic arches.
A formal lounge consists of a fireplace and original painted ornate ceilings while a separate formal dining room has gas fire and a built-in whiskey cabinet.
The kitchen has quality cabinetry including a breakfast bar, William Morris designed glass splashbacks and heritage style 5 burner Falcon freestanding cooker.
A double ceramic sink and Bosch dishwasher are also included in the kitchen.
The master bedroom has its own built-in wardrobes, a heritage inspired ensuite with claw’n ball tub, shower and toilet.
One bedroom includes a built-in day bed, original features and another has direct access to the garden.
