The former Paddington home of INXS frontman Michael Hutchence has been put up for rent by its new landlord.

It was recently sold at $1.72 million ahead of its March auction.

It was owned by Hutchence for a decade until 1995.

Hutchence moved into the two-bedder at 6 Wentworth Street, soon after his purchase, with his girlfriend Michelle Bennett, the star’s first love ... and who he called just before he died in 1997.

The couple lived there together for a period, during which “Michael started to collect some possessions — furniture, paintings," according to the book, Just A Man, The Real Michael Hutchence, by his sister, Tina Hutchence, and late mother, Patricia Glassop.

The cottage has been put up for rent at $1150 a week, down slightly on its $1195 asking rental of two years ago.

It was recently sold at $1.72 million to investor Emily Joseph by Belle agent Zach Carter ahead of its March auction.

The terrace was unsuccessful when listed last year with $2 million hopes with another agent, then relisted with $1.7 million hopes earlier this year.

It’s just the second time it has been up for grabs since Hutchence sold it in 1995, two years before his 1997 death.

Hutchence paid $105,500 in 1985, around the time the record label WEA released Dekadance as a limited edition cassette only EP of six tracks including remixes from the album, The Swing.

Hutchence had previously resided at an apartment block on Kirketon Road, Darlinghurst.

The 1890s semi was sold by Hutchence for $285,500 in 1995, after which it became a $330 a week rental through Farquharsons.

It next sold for $475,000 in 2000, the last time it traded until this year.

The quintessential cottage on a 141 square metre block with fresh all-white interiors has two bedrooms on Wentworth Street.

Carter had suggested its rental return was in the vicinity of $1,100 to $1,200 per week.

The leasing agent Luke Overs said the place had "feel-good vibes".
