More New South Wales borrowers (14.6%) owe more than $300,000 on their mortgages than borrowers in any other state, ABS data has revealed.

Tasmanian borrowers on average owe the least on their mortgages, with 12.9% of borrowers owing $100,000 or less.

The state with the next-smallest average mortgage size is Victoria, with just 4.7% of borrowers owing more than $300,000.
The ABS data also reveals the amount of equity home owners have in their properties.
