Bates Smart has been selected to design Walker Corporation’s 90-storey Aspire tower in Parramatta, beating off Fender Katsalidis, DBI Design and PTW Architects.

The decision was made by a panel comprising Parramatta City architect Kim Crestani, NSW government architect Peter Poulet, Barangaroo design director Bob Nation and Barry Mann, a member of Parramatta City’s property and significant assets team.

The $700 million tower will be Sydney’s tallest if completed to plan as the centrepiece of the $2 billion redevelopment of Parramatta Square, in Sydney’s west.

Bates Smart will be forced to first lodge a 70-storey development application, and only be permitted to request a taller tower once it has agreement from the Civil Aviation Safety Authority.

Walker Corporation is building two adjacent commercial towers designed by Johnson Pilton Walker.
