Three consortia shortlisted for Melbourne Metro tunneling & station contract

On Sunday morning, the Minister for Public Transport announced three consortia had been shortlisted in the final round of bidding to build the 5 stations and tunnels on the Melbourne Metro project.

Formal planning approval for the early works on the project has also been received with Urban Melbourne spotting piling rigs on site over the weekend.

Across all three consortia global Australian, Spanish, French and Italian construction giants & specialists are well represented.  The three consortia are as follows:

Continuum Victoria, comprising

Cross Yarra Partnership, comprising

Moving Melbourne Together, comprising

Melbourne Metro Map

The three consortia's proposals "include more than 100,000 pages of detailed plans to build the nine-kilometre Metro Tunnel and five new underground stations at Arden, Parkville, CBD North, CBD South and Domain."  The winning bidder and contract signing is expected to be complete by the end of the year with major works kicking off in 2018.

From today, the westbound lanes of Albert Road (between St Kilda Road and Kings Way) are set to close for up to seven and a half months to allow early works to begin on the Domain station precinct.  The long timeframe for the early works in this precinct are due in part to the relocation of the South Yarra Main sewer which currently rests under the Domain station footprint.

For more information on the Albert Road closures, see the metrotunnel.vic.gov.au website.
