Podcast - Episode 48: Castran Gilbert's Michael Lang and David Howard on the state of the market

<p>This week I sit down to chat (and laugh) with Chris Eggleston and Johan Hermijanto from Bates Smart about the office's upcoming exhibition, Time + Space as part of Melbourne Design Week 2019.</p>

<p>The exhibition explores the design process, with a focus on the amount of time required to create space. Using the recently completed Club Stand designed by Bates Smart for Victoria Racing Club as a case study, the installation showcases a layered exploration of process and outcome.</p>

<p>Time + Space includes a sectional sculpture of The Club Stand paired with a timeline that provides an insider’s perspective into the meticulous approach to architectural and interior design process. The exhibition dissects both the spatial outcomes of the building itself and the project timeline, revealing the translation of vision into reality.</p>

A special evening viewing will also take place on Thursday 21 March from 6pm to 9pm that invites the public to experience the gallery after hours.</p>

Podcast - Episode 46: Harcourts CEO Tony Morrison

<p>For our first podcast of 2019, I sit down with Cindy Rabone (Senior Interior Designer), Chivonne Hollis (Executive Manager) and Emma Alessi (Senior Interior Designer) of SORA Interiors, which is the sister design office to CHT Architects, hence the name Sora, which in Latin means 'sister.'</p>

<p>The trio discuss the challenges and opportunities of becoming a standalone office such as fielding an Archisoccer team that is performing better than your parent office, in addition to some of the types of projects they are currently working on.</p>

<p>The PANTONE Color of the Year for 2019 also rates a mention. That's Living Coral (PANTONE 16-1546) for those of you playing at home.</p>

Weekly Podcast - Episode 45: SORA Interiors

<p>On today's episode, I sit down with <a href="https://www.urban.com.au/architects/hayball">Hayball's</a> Sarah Buckeridge and Andrew Moulding to discuss the office's work on Frasers Property's Burwood Brickworks project in <a href="https://www.urban.com.au/new-apartments/burwood-east-vic">Burwood East</a>. </p>

<p><a href="https://www.urban.com.au/developers/frasers-property">Frasers Property</a> is redeveloping the 20.5ha former brickworks site into a mixed-use precinct comprising a commercial and retail shopping centre with a rooftop ‘urban farm’, a range of residential buildings including townhouses and apartments, set amongst a high quality public realm of green spaces. All development on the site is being designed to achieve a 5-star Green Star Communities certification.</p>

<p>Hayball is undertaking both the masterplanning and architectural design elements of four apartment buildings – the Garden Apartments - located on a 1.2ha parcel of land in the heart of the new precinct adjoining a shared urban plaza. In total, 267 apartments will be delivered across the six-storey buildings, with a café at the base of one of the apartments (Plaza Gardens) and a basement car park.</p>

<p>Simon is part of an expert research panel, led by The University of Melbourne’s Dr. Ben Cleveland, for the research project which explores the idea of schools being used as community hubs and utilising them beyond the hours of 9.00am to 3.30pm. </p>
