New Rockbank estates
Some things you should know about Rockbank:
- Rockbank in Melbourne’s west, is a town that has become a major growth area.
- Suited to many lifestyles, Rockbank is at the mid point between Deer Park and Melton.
- Following significant investment in transport improvements and the overall close proximity to central Melbourne, Rockbank and adjacent neighbourhoods like Thornhill Park, are incredibly popular places to put down roots.
House and land packages are popular throughout the area with many developers offering them.
New suburbs such as Mount Cottrell, and Thornhill Park are community-focused master-planned areas and many still have land lots for sale or in the pipeline.

Rockbank, and any of the estates that are being released, has easy access down the Western Freeway to jobs precincts in nearby Truganina as well as good rail services from the local Rockbank station.
Entertainment venues are being built all the time with Melton and Sunshine hosting the nearest cinemas and new dining and nightlife venues are cropping up all over the place including in places like Caroline Springs. Residents can also tantalise their taste buds at any of the local wineries in the area as well.
The journey to the Melbourne CBD is 34 minutes on a stopping all stations train and within the next decade, community members of Rockbank and surrounds will have easy access to the new Melbourne Airport Rail link which will include a train change at Sunshine.
Rockbank to Sunshine station takes 17 minutes by train and it is expected it will be less than 10 minutes from Sunshine to the Airport when the link opens by 2029.
Planning for Rockbank
Precinct Structure Plans (PSPs) are what govern the overall planning for new greenfields development in Victoria.
The Victorian Planning Authority usually drives this process and ultimately, the PSPs are adopted and gazetted by the local council.
Rockbank’s PSP was completed and gazetted in November 2016 with the Melton City Council.
There are several other neighbouring PSPs governing the development of land between Deer Park and Melton.
The Ballarat line runs through the Rockbank area and was recently duplicated, allowing more short-running trains to operate to and from Melton.
A new station was added to the line at Cobblebank and there is potentially going to be another station built at Mount Atkinson.
Long term, the railway corridor may be quadruplicated or expanded further as part of the Western Rail Plan project that will aim to separate regional Ballarat Vline services with new electrified metropolitan services running to and from Melton.
As at mid 2021, no explicit detail on the Western Rail Plan - including costs and timelines - has been released; however this is expected to occur before the end of 2022.
A new primary school has been built on the northern side of Rockbank recently and the PSP for the area shows spaces for several more schools to be built have been planned.
