Six regional councils in Queenslands central and western areas will receive $17.3 million of funding under the second round of Royalties for Regions for infrastructure and other crucial projects.

"This is about supporting projects that increase liveability and offer a long term attractive lifestyle in resource regions for generations of Queenslanders to come," said Premier Campbell Newman.

The biggest funding allocation includes $8 million to upgrade the Arcadia Valley Road in the Central Highlands, a project that will total $11.8 million.

Child care centres and telecommunication upgrades have also been listed, as well as boosts for schools, community centres and other road upgrades.

Member for Gregory Vaughn Johnson said that these investments are a "shot in the arm" to local people.
