Woodvale, the luxury Woodend property in the foothills of Mount Macedon, has been listed for just the third time.

The land was chosen in the 1840s by the Barker family, with the earliest building dating back to the 1860s.

The single-level grand Victorian homestead was built in 1884 and has recently been transformed by heritage architect Bruce Trethowan for the McLaren family. It has five bedrooms and four bathrooms.

At the heart of the grand central living room is a Cheminees Phillippe fireplace.

Jellis Craig Macedon Ranges agents Tom May and Paul Keane have a $3.6 million to $3.9 million guide.

The 51 hectare property is currently set up as a cattle operation, with cattle yards, 14 paddocks, a managers residence and an original stone barn.

The garden was developed from a masterplan in 2005 with a number of garden rooms and courtyards.
