The retiring thoroughbred race horse breeder Joe Vella has sold Wingrove Park, his Macedon Ranges district at Kerrie.

Over the past forty years the Vella family have been successfully breeding, racing and selling thoroughbreds.

Vella and his wife Daira established it three decades ago, located 16 kms north east of Gisborne, positioned between world renowned studs, Sun International Stud and Spendthrift Stud.

There was a $5.8 million asking price for the 86 hectare property at 249 Mt Eliza Road through Elders Real Estate when it was listed in November. No sale price has been given by agents Nick Myer and Kellie Mutimer.

The state-of-the-art equine facility has 54 paddocks. It has 11 stables, two super-size foaling down boxes, a foal Intensive Care Unit, three stable shedding complexes, fully enclosed wood shavings shed, a hospital barn with a full range of veterinary facilities, and an equine rehabilitation area.

The 1990-built double brick homestead is reach via an avenue of manicured and mature Cyprus trees.

Royal Symphony, the three-year-old colt bred at Wingrove Park, recently finished fourth in the Cox Plate behind Winx.
