Western Australian Building Commissioner fines another unregistered builder

Reliable Renovations & Construction, the trading name of unregistered York builder Bruce Alistair Beaton, has been ordered to pay $5,500 in fines and $900 of costs after being prosecuted by the Building Commissioner.

At the Northam Magistrates Court, Beaton pleaded guilty to three charges relating to residential building work undertaken at a Northam property between April and July 2011 to the total value of $90,000. The property was storm-damaged.

He did not have registration, as required for most building works over $20,000 in many parts of Western Australia.

He also did not ensure the home building work contract was signed by both parties or contained the specific amount payable by the owner. He also did not obtain a home indemnity insurance policy.

The Western Australian Building Commissioner recently prosecuted another unregistered Perth building companyFinishmyhome.com.au's directors Paul Edward Ovens and Allesandro Giuseppe Iovene were ordered to pay $41,200 of fines and costs.over registration and contractual offences.
