Scentre Group have submitted revised plans to the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage to expand the Booragoon shopping centre, which comes almost two years after former owner AMP Capital’s $750 million plan to expand the centre to a Western Australia record of 120,000 sqm was put on hold, when the company sold half of its shares and management rights to Scentre Group.
Subject to WA Planning Commission approvals, the new plan would be completed across two stages, with hopes the first stage would start by the end of the year, set to be complete by 2024.
Stage one includes an entertainment and leisure precinct with an expanded Hoyts cinema complex, a range of eaters and a tavern linking through a high street and the City of Melville’s administration building, a new boutique supermarket, an expanded Woolworths, a new east-west mall extension, specialty retail shops and rooftop and basement carparks.
Stage two will see an upgraded fashion precinct towards Marmion Street, a relocated and expanded David Jones, southern mall extension, more specialty shops and extended parking.
If the redevelopment goes ahead, Boogaroon’s centre will rise past northern suburbs Lakeside Joondalup, Whitford City and the recently-redeveloped Karrinyup, which is an almost identical size at 109,000 sqm.
