The former German Consulate in South Yarra is up for sale with $5 million hopes.

The 480 Punt Road offering has been listed by Colliers International agents Ben Baines and Jeremy Gruzewski, in conjunction with Matt Davis and Gerald Delany of Kay & Burton.

The property has been listed by the Federal Republic of Germany who acquired the large mid-Victorian residence in 1955.

The residential zoned, 2,800 square metre block contains several other separate buildings constructed between the 1850s and 1930s.

Prior to the German Consulate occupying the site, it was owned and occupied by a number of large, well-known families including the Manifolds, Grahams and Morells.

Mr Baines said the property would appeal to a wide range of potential buyers.

“Due to the flexibility of the offering and the character-filled building that occupies a small portion of the land, we expect the property to attract interest from residential developers, residential home owners, medical/aged care users and educational groups (STCA), among others,” he said.

“Developers have, of late, gravitated toward sites of this size and with ‘X’ factor, which this property has in abundance.

“Having not been made available since 1955, and being one of the last remaining sites of this size within South Yarra, we expect strong interest," he said.

Mr Davis said expressions of interest close September 17.
