Owner-occupiers have responded to South Yarra House, the new architecturally significant South Yarra apartment development by local developer Wattletree, who have announced they've sold 60 per cent of the apartments in the SJB-designed, Art Deco-influenced building.

Wattletree, SJB and interiors expert Hecker Guthrie took inspiration from South Yarra's iconic Art Deco and Spanish mission homes, as well as apartment blocks merged with a timeless New York tower aesthetic, to bring the likes of which the popular inner-city suburb hasn't seen before.

With a predominantly brick and concrete façade, the architects have strategically prioritised unobstructed views to the north while ensuring the building's thermal efficiency and solar performance.

The 20-level gridded tower comprises three floors dedicated to commercial and retail spaces on the lower levels.

Atop the podium are 58 apartments spread across a maximum of five units per floor. To top it off, residents can access a communal rooftop to enjoy panoramic views.

The $190 million project sits in a 1,000 sqm site before Melbourne High School's football ground, giving it never-to-be-built out views given the heritage protection order over the school grounds.
