Long before European settlement, the area now known as Brighton was inhabited by the Bunurong people, who lived along the coastline to utilize the abundant marine resources for sustenance.

The area became farmland following European settlement in the early 1800s. The 1840s marked the beginning of significant growth in Brighton, largely due to the introduction of a regular steamer service between Melbourne and the coastal suburb. This service made it easier for people to travel to and from the city and helped to boost the area's popularity.

More development came and the suburb started to become a playground for Melbourne's well-heeled. Streets were, and the majority still are, lined with distinctive Victorian and Edwardian architecture. Now they're mixed with striking contemporary new build houses, and now more recently new apartment and townhouse developments seeking to create a different dwelling type that caters for a wider target market.

Brighton has been particularly popular in recent years, with some apartment developments recently completing. There's a solid pipeline of new apartments and townhouses in the affluent suburb as well as it continues to be dragged into the 21st century.

We've wrapped up a list of the top apartments and townhouses in the bayside suburb for sale in October 2023.

Project: 111 Carpenter

Developer: Sloane

Address: 111 Carpenter Street, Brighton

Boutique developer Sloane, led by Founder and Director Adam Sloane, has recently unveiled a new gem in Brighton's real estate crown - 111 Carpenter. The development offers just seven townhomes, emphasising quality over quantity.

Megowan Architectural was enlisted to design the townhomes, and their vision captures the essence of Brighton's vibrant coastal community. The three-level townhomes are bathed in natural north-facing light, providing spacious and sun-drenched havens for families.

Each residence seamlessly connects interior spaces to private courtyards, which have been masterfully crafted by the renowned John Patrick Landscape Architects.

Drawing inspiration from the timeless Art-Deco movement, contemporary design elements shine through, particularly in the bespoke oscillating timber joinery in the kitchen, fireplace shroud, and bathroom.

The homes exemplify the considered architecture that reflects the openness of Brighton, offering light-filled spaces, generous balconies, and secure double lock-up garages.

Project: Willow

Developer: Samuel Property

Address: 74-78 Well Street, Brighton

Completed earlier this year, Samuel Property's Willow has garnered attention for its exceptional landscaping and biophilic design, prioritising the health and well-being of its residents.

The landscape architecture practice responsible for Willow's design, Acre, drew inspiration from nature to create a harmonious and elemental approach, resulting in a sensory delight at every turn.

Architecture firm Bayley Ward pushed the envelope when designing Willow, the newest addition to the luxury Brighton apartment market.

The striking curved facade creates a street presence on the tree-lined Well Street while remaining quietly shielded by a generous setback and extensive landscaping.
