A vast vacant land holding, in Victoria's costal suburb of Sorrento, has sold for $4.5 million.

Situated at 19 Westmore Avenue, the property comprises 7534 square metres.

It was bought for the construction of a private family beach residence, despite expectations that the property would sell to a developer wanting to build flats or divide the block up.

The price guide of $4.5 to $4.75 million was provided with the listing.

It previously traded in 2017 when it was sold for $4 million, however, before that the block had not changed hands since 1891.

The median house price in Sorrento is $1.45 million.

Rob Curtain and Hamish Opray, from Peninsula Sotheby's International Realty Sorrento, listed the property.
