There were no bids made when Brighton’s most impressive weekend listing, 1930s residence Sussex, went to auction through Buxton agents Regina Schmidt and Brian Devlin with price hopes of $3.5 million.

The well-positioned home in the heart of Brighton opened with the auctioneer seeking bids of $3.2 million – but nothing came from the crowd.

A vendor bid came at that level, and then another vendor bid of $3.4 million, according to James Buyer Advocates.

The buyers’ agency gave it a rating of 725, which is well above average, so they and the Buxton agents expect a sale in coming days.

The house, with five bedrooms and a home-office, comes with 1835 stables that have been converted into a two-room entertainers' complex.
