Paul Panichi, one of Australia's leading trumpeter's, and wife Kathryn have spent $4.5 million on an Avalon Beach waterfront sold by celebrated international novelist Derek Hansen, who penned a number of his most successful novels while living at the home.

Derek and wife Carole paid $910,000 for the home some 25 years ago.

Over the last 30 years Paul has worked with some of the biggest musical acts in history such as Frank Sinatra, Barbara Streisand, Liza Minneli and Sammy Davis Junior.

Paul and Kathy couple have owned a number of properties across Sydney, none more grand than the Mosman Federation home Coolindah, that they sold for $5.1 million in 2011.

The original 1960s home was refurbished by Alex Popov into a five bedroom, four bathroom homes with direct access to Paradise Beach.
