Merrill Lynch's head of investment banking David Wood and wife Jillian have secured a buyer for The Briars, their Mosman Federation following their reputed $10 million purchase at Clifton Gardens.

The couple bought for $2.976 million in 2008 when Wood was managing director of Rothschild.

The renovated five bedroom 1907 home sold through David Murphy Real Estate who had a price guide of between $4.8 million and $5.1 million.

The couple were underbidders on the Vestey family's Kirribilli harbourfront which sold for $10.22 million, but instead secured Prince Albert House from the Alpe family with extension by Giles Tribe Architects with Thomas Hamel interiors through McGrath’s Michael Coombs.
