Sydney Swans young gun Isaac Heeney buys in Maroubra

Sydney Swans young gun Isaac Heeney has bought into the Sydney market, just months after he'd bought his first property up near Newcastle.

The AFL star has spent $1.56 million in Maroubra, which has become a popular place for Swan acquisitions in recent years.

It's a near-new garden apartment just off the beach.

The apartment sits in a 2016 built boutique block of 10.

Heeney's buy ranks as the second priciest in the block where the penthouse fetched $2,825,000 two years ago.

The purchase comes after Heeney secured an investment property in Booragul, not far from Newcastle where he grew up.

He paid $600,000 for the three bedroom home late last year.

It sits on 755 sqm just 100 metres from the edge of Lake Macquarie. He quickly found a $435 a week tenant, which secured him a 3.75 percent yield.

The Maroubra apartment has 150 sqm of indoor and outdoor living.

It has two bedrooms, two bathroom and an entertaining patio with manicured garden.

Ray White Maroubra South Coogee agent Andrew Malouf sold the apartment that last traded for $1,425,000 three years ago.

Maroubra has become somewhat of a hotspot for Swans in recent times.

Luke Parker started buying in the suburb when he was a fresh-face in the Swans set-up.

Parker first bought in in 2013, having made his debut in 2011. The then 20 year old paid $915,000 for a three bedroom townhouse.

He backed up the buy three years later, paying $1.3 million for a three bedroom apartment.

His biggest outlay came last year when he spent $2.66 million on a five bedroom home with swimming pool in Malabar.

At the other end of his career is veteran defender Heath Grundy, who recently sold his Maroubra home after the birth of Jameson, his second child with wife Elise.

The family are expected to remain around the area, but are looking to upsize.

Grundy retains an investment next door to the home he just sold.

It could have all been a lot different for Heeney, who in 2014 was drafted by Melbourne as the number two pick.

On his debut in 2015, Heeney kicked the match-winning goal after a third quarter 41 point deficit against Essendon.

After finishing school Heeney admitted without the Swans academy he would have turned to rugby league as he was the only student throughout his school who played AFL.

Heeney has been a crucial part of the Swans outfit this season, sitting third on the ladder.
