Sweeney's at Scenic Hills equestrian property listed
The 200-hectare Scenic Hills equestrian property Sweeney’s at Scenic Hills, which is also a wedding and function centre, has been listed for sale.
CBRE agents Frank Oliveri and Peter Vines have been appointed to market the property located at Lot 1 Campbelltown Road, Denham Court.
It dates back to when Patrick and Cynthia Sweeney purchased the property in 1955 and built their home and raised four children.
It was originally a dairy farm, and the Sweeney family opened the riding ranch in 1959.
The Sweeney’s Wedding and Function Centre was built as a dream of Patrick’s after he died.
Cynthia still lives on the property and is known as the matriarch of Scenic Hills.
Scenic Hills riding ranch closed its doors to the public in late 2010 after 51 years.
“We have been staunch servants of the local community, but our business has continued to lose money hand over fist,” Cynthia told The Macarthur Chronicle in 2010 when the ranch closed operations.
“Firstly the drought, then equine influenza and more recently the government charging rates and land tax at a rate of $320,000 per annum have killed our business.”
The property comprises of a function centre, an outdoor theatre, shed, stables and outbuildings.
Scenic Hills Riding Ranch is 47 kilometres from the Sydney CBD.
“This property offers an exceptionally rare opportunity for owner-occupier or speculator groups to secure an enormous land holding with great proximity to the Sydney, Liverpool and Campbelltown CBD,” says CBRE’s Peter Vines who is acting under receivers' instructions.
Offers are due November 22.
