South Australia NRAS scam alert

Jonathan ChancellorAugust 20, 2013

There are allegations that people in South Australia have been contacted by phone by individuals identifying themselves as officers from The Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (FaHCSIA)offering financial advice.

They are then seeking access to people’s homes to provide information on how to pay off your mortgage via accessing the NRAS.

These claims are false and may be a scam.

The individual or individuals do in no way represent FaHCSIA or the Commonwealth.

FaHCSIA officers do not:

  • contact members of the public promoting NRAS;
  • seek to make appointments with people at their home; or
  • contact members of the public asking for personal information, such as banking details.
