Riverlee's Clement Lee recognised in 2019 Queen’s Birthday Honours
Developer Clement Lee, founder of Riverlee Group, was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia for service to architecture and to philanthropy in the 2019 Queen’s Birthday Honours.
The Malaysian-Australian developer (above, right) founded Riverlee Group which he now runs the firm with his son David.
Lee is an architect and town planner, with over 40 years experience in property development in Malaysia and Australia.
The Melbourne-based private property development and investment group's projects include the proposed development atop the North Bank Goods Sheds designed by Fender Katsalidis and Oculus.
Its other current works include a 20 level commercial premises on Collins Street, currently home to the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (below).
Riverlee has also recently teamed up with Bamfa Properties with a $190 million commercial tower next to Burnley Station in Richmond.
The new 13-level office's location at 484 Swan Street, midway between Melbourne University's Burnley Campus and the popular Cremorne tech-focused office precinct, is being overseen by development director David Lee.
The group has appointed Savills Australia's Phillip Cullity to head the campaign.
Riverlee Group's most recent work has come from Tasmania.
In partnership with DarkLab, Riverlee are set to develop the famed Odean Theatre in Hobart (below).
It was built in 1916 and is widely believed to have been based on the Strand Theatre in New York.
The intention is to turn the almost entire city block in to one of Australia's best live music and entertainment precincts.
Riverlee and DarkLab worked together on restoring the former Tattersalls Hotel, also in Hobart, which reopened its doors this week.
They restored Altar, the 400-person live music venue.
Riverlee are also restoring Hobart's Reserve Bank building on Macquarie Street.
Constructed in 1977, the A-grade 10 storey office tower was bought by Riverlee in 2001.
Since then they have undertaken significant internal and external refurbishments. The building was awarded the ‘Enduring Architecture Award’ at the 2012 Tasmanian Architecture Awards.
The company also undertake projects in Malaysia.
In 2015 they completed The Reserve, a landmark gated development in the Klang Hills on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur.
