Ricky Ponting, the retired Australian cricket captain, has listed his Sutherland Shire home for October 5 auction as he prepares to move to Melbourne's Brighton.

Ponting and wife, Rianna have asked Sean Egan of McGrath Estate Agents to auction their five-bedroom Burraneer Bay house.

It had $4.75 million plus expectations on its initial April private treaty offering.

Overlooking Port Hacking, the tri-level house (pictured below) comes with infinity pool and private jetty, boatshed and pontoon.

The house has been renovated since bought it for $3.8 million in 2006.

The couple are off to the Shandford Estate, a 1920s Edwardian seven-bedroom house on 1890 square metres of land in Brighton, which has a billiard room, library, tennis court and a private laneway to the nearby beach.

Last sold at $2.7 million in 1999, the Brighton house was sold by private treaty through JP Dixon in March at around $10 million.
