Residential vacancies nationwide rise in April: SQM Research

Residential vacancies nationwide rose during April to come in at 2.5 percent - slightly above annual season trends according to SQM Research.
 
Perth vacancies increased 0.5 percent during April, Canberra up 0.3 percent month on month and vacancies stabilised in Hobart at 0.9 percent.
 
The vacancy rate for Perth is now at a record high according to SQM, who said it suggests t the housing downturn in Perth has yet to bottom out and that rents have further to fall.

Darwin had an 8.4 percent fall for house asking rents and 12.5 percent for units over the year. House rents in Perth are down 8.4 percent and units 9.3 percent.
 
According to SQM, Hobart is the most affordable with rents for houses at just $350 a week and Adelaide the most affordable for unit rental, averaging $285 a week.
