Queensland's Newman government intends on selling the Fortitude Valley State School.

The 1.4-hectare site is less than a kilometre from the Brisbane central business district. With fewer than 50 students enrolled over recent years, it closed last December.

The Australian Financial Review estimates its is likely to fetch $50 million plus with the proceeds to go towards school maintenance.

The government’s property portfolio manager recently sought marketing tender submissions for the 150 year old school property at 85 Brookes Street.

Fortitude Valley tops the list for the most expensive off-the-plan sales, at $7200 a square metre, according to a recent report by agency JLL.
