One of the Queensland Gold Coast glitter strip’s last remaining 1950s beach shacks fetched $870,000 at recent auction.

Yellow Cottage, the three bedroom Surfers Paradise shack on 405 square metres at 15 Thornton Street, sits surrounded by highrise residential buildings, including Thornton Towers.

Ray White Broadbeach selling agent Stuart Reeder sold it to a builder after he outbid three other registered parties, with plans to renovate but not rebuild the site by Hammer Brothers Construction.

The shack was sold after four decades in the same family.

It was last available for rent in 2013 at a $450 weekly asking price.
