Supermarket giant Woolworths has achieved a significant milestone in its plans for a mixed-use retail and residential development in Rose Bay.

They've secure a Gateway Determination for their prime 1,561 sqm site on the corner of Old South Head Road and Albemarle Road, where they intend on developing a two-level Woolworths underneath 13 owner-occupier, luxury apartments designed by PBD Architects.

The apartments have been designed to ensure privacy for nearby homes, incorporating a landscaped 'pocket park' and setbacks on the upper floors.

The Sydney Eastern City Planning Panel acknowledged the strategic and site-specific merit of the proposal in November 2023, leading to a recommendation and later on the issuance of Gateway Determination from the Department of Planning, Housing, and Infrastructure in February 2024.

This determination signifies a green light for the project to progress to public exhibition.

Undertaken in consultation with the community and Council, Woolworths Property's proposal aligns with the goals outlined in Woollahra Council’s Development Control Plan 2015, specifically targeting the Rose Bay South Mixed Use Centre as a 'Key Corner Gateway' site.

Currently, the site is home to a Caltex Service Station.
