Uninhabited Byron Hall, Potts Point company title apartment sells after 20 years
Time stood still inside the empty 52 square metre ground floor unit one at Byron Hall, Potts Point.
Uninhabited for two decades, it was only recently that local estate agent Nuri Shik of Laing & Simmons Potts Point opened up the time capsule.
The apartment at 97-99 Macleay Street went on the market with a $430,000 plus asking price to sell within the fortnight sold for $436,000.
Nuri Shik explained the property was inherited by the current vendor, who because of the restrictive rental rules in the company title building, chose to leave it empty.
Byron Hall, like many pre-strata company title blocks in inner eastern Sydney, has official rules that endeavour to make the block predominantly owner occupied. Byron Hall has been known to permit, on application, limited rental approval if the owner has transferred overseas.
Each residential company title block has their own version as to the extent of allowing rentals - including approval for extended family members and rental permission after two year ownership. There are blocks too were investors can buy into including Kanimbla Hall at 19a Tusculum Street, Potts Point and Wintergarden at 57 Darlinghurst Road, Kings Cross.
Byron Hall was designed by architect Claude Hamilton in 1929.
Unit one is only one of two one-bedroom apartments in Byron Hall.
