Renowned local Newcastle builder-developer, GWH, is continuing to transform the city skyline.

GWH, approaching their 30th year anniversary of delivering quality buildings to the Newcastle region, has launched ERA Newcastle, two apartment towers just a few streets back from the Hunter River, its harbourside hospitality precinct, and the heart of the burgeoning city.

ERA Newcastle will comprise 281 one, two and three-bedroom apartments that will cater to different buyer groups, from first home buyers and investors from Sydney to local downsizers who want a low maintenance, city-centric lifestyle while also being ideally located just a few kilometres from Newcastle’s famous beaches.

In a major coup for Newcastle and its residents, GWH had respected architecture firm FK Australia design the two towers, the first buildings in Newcastle designed by the studio who has produced a string of award-winning developments across Melbourne, including Australia’s tallest residential tower, Australia 108.

FK Australia has designed the building so the living spaces are wrapped in floor-to-ceiling glass windows, windows that almost replace walls. They wanted to to maximise views and also let in as much natural light as possible.

Much like GWH’s past developments, there was a conscious effort to offer significant resident amenity. They have over 2,000 sqm of communal space across the two buildings, connected by a podium which will feature a large outdoor pool, gym, fitness studio, and sauna, as well as several barbecue and dining areas.

There will be a rooftop skygarden atop each tower, capturing uninterrupted views of the ocean, harbour, and city.

GWH is expecting to put shovel in the ground on the large 6,500 sqm Bull Street site in the coming months, and anticipates a completion toward the end of 2027.

About the developer

GWH was founded in 1995 by Grahame Chevalley and Hilton Grugeon and predominantly focused their efforts in the commercial and industrial development before moving into residential development in 2017. Since then they’ve delivered over 600 new homes to the Newcastle region, won several Master Builders Awards, and recently secured its iCIRT rating for a second consecutive year.

GWH is one of few development companies across New South Wales who has its own construction arm, a huge advantage in the off the plan apartment market. It allows them to manage the whole process of the development and guarantee its build quality.

The GWH team is currently delivering ONE Apartments, just 650 metres from ERA Newcastle. They’ll be completing that two-tower development late next year.

Previously GWH has completed Sky Residences, a trio of interconnected buildings literally 100m from the front door of ERA. That won the 2023 Excellence in Building Award from Master Builders Australia.
