Eight new projects, to a total of $48.7 million, are being funded by the NSW Government for the investor-favourite Hunter region.

With news in May that Chinese winery buyers are re-emerging in the market and observer Jo Chivers recently giving it a lifestyle tick of approval the latest government announcements are another positive for the area.

“These projects, which were nominated by the Hunter community, include the $11 million expansion of the Newcastle Airport and the $7 million expansion of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at John Hunter Hospital,” NSW Planning and Infrastructure minister Brad Hazzard said.

There had also been a recently announced $12.9 million Paediatric Intensive Care Unit announced.

The Hunter Infrastructure & Investment Fund (HIIF) also outlined a $7.3 million construction of a regional football facility, a $9.6 million replacement of the Muswellbrook Sewerage Treatment Plant, a $2 million Maitland Town Hall refurbishment and a $4 million reconstruction of Thomas Mitchell Drive in Muswellbrook.

More than $10 million remains in the fund for further projects. The total NSW Government funding to the region through the HIIF over the last two years totals $338.7 million.
