VIDEO: Ensure you check the basement car park

Jennifer DukeDecember 7, 2020

Just Think Real Estate's Edwin Almeida was out in Sydney, for Sydney Real Estate TV, in a strata block just outside of Parramatta undergoing an investigation.

Looking at the basement carpark of the complex, that he had been to 18 months previously, he noted that nothing has changed here. There are still computers, chairs, couches and general rubbish piled high. Almeida expressed his concern to Property Observer that it is not only taking up parking space of others residents, but it is also a fire and hygiene hazard.

Investors - ensure that if you are buying, or if you're having an inspection undertaken during ownership, you have the carpark looked at as well. If you find that your investment property is kept in a similar state as the video below, it's time to start asking questions and getting it cleaned up. You may find that if a prospective buyer or tenant in the future stumbles on a similar mess, they may not be willing to move in, affecting your return and vacancy rate.

How would you handle this situation?
