Award-winning Potts Point home from award-winning architect

William Smart-designed 17 Tusculum Street, Potts Point, New South Wales is a five-bedroom, three-bathroom house called 'Ilari'.

Maintaining a Federation-style facade, the property is designed on split levels, with outdoor entertaining areas and Zen gardens.

It has a spiraling steel/bronze staircase as a centrepiece, and has a technological feel while maintaining the classical architecture.

It has a formal living room that opens out onto a travertine verandah and Juliette balcony, heated travetine floors, vaulted ceilings, a large study or guest room, a gas fireplace, video intercom, back to base alarm, remote control garage and a focus on natural light.

The property won the 2012 Interior Design Excellence Awards' Best Single Residential, as well as the 2012 Belle Coco Republic Interior Design Awards - Best Residential Interior.

The property last sold in 2007 for $1,900,000 and is currently just open to expressions of interest.

Smart's website notes that the plan was to keep the front the original architectural vision, while bringing a contemporary style to the rear. A 13-metre sliding glass wall, concealed in joinery when opened, helps with the indoor/outdoor perspective.

Smart himself lives in an award-winning design of his own creation in Surry Hills.

Currently, this Potts Point home is owned by Kevin O’Neill and Johnson Chan.
