Adelaide's Carly and Leighton, the House Rules contestant couple, revealed their $450,000 mortgage - and potential prize - on last night's show. The mortgage was secured to buy a 1957 sandstone house in Warradale.

The South Australian couple actually paid $450,000 for the house which had been listed with $485,000 hopes in May 2012, Property Observer gleaned.

Set on block of almost 700 square metre, the freestone home (pictured below) was marketed as offering "outstanding potential."

"Ideal for those looking to redevelop (frontage of some 18.28m) or renovate, the current floor plan comprises spacious gas heated living room, kitchen/meals and three bedrooms (built-ins to master) and detached air conditioned games room and tool sheds," said the Annette Bradshaw Real Estate ad. The median house price in Warradale is $460,000, according to RP Data.

Before Carly and Leighton's acquistion, the house had previously sold at $250,000 in 2003 and in 1993 at $127,000.

The ratings of last night's first glimpse into the Adelaide home sat as sixth most watched program at 1 .03 million on Channel 7. The Block All Stars on Channel 9 was in third place at 1.18 million. There were 144,000 watching House Rules in Adelaide compared to the 88,000 watching The Block Sky High in Adelaide.

The State of Origin has prompted rescheduling in some states for the home renovation show to Thursday night, the host Johanna Griggs tweeted today.

The six contestant couples have put their entire home on the line in return for the new renovation done by strangers - and a chance at Channel 7 wiping their mortgage.

Nick and Chris, the Channel 7 Melbourne House Rules brothers bought their Californian bungalow in Preston for $555,000 last August. It comes with a mortgage of $524,ooo which will be wiped off by Channel 7 if they win the renovation stress competition series hosted by Johanna Griggs.

The Tasmanian couple, Jane and Plinio paid $355,000 in 2010 for a house initially listed at $380,000-plus. They revealed their mortgage as the competition's smallest to date at just $315,000.

There's a $545,000 mortgage repayment prize at stake at House Rules Perth renovation.

The Perth newlyweds Jemma Blenkinsop, who runs a spray-tan business and builder, Ben Van Ryt were first-home buyers in late 2011 when they bought their 1950s Melville home for $555,000. They have a $545,000 mortgage, the highest mortgage reveal to date with two contestant couples, NSW and Queensland still to be revealed.

The six teams competing are:

Michelle & Steve (Collaroy Plateau, New South Wales)

Amy & Sean (Queensland)

Carly & Leighton (Warradale, South Australia)

Jemma & Ben (Melville, Western Australia)

Jane & Plinio (New Town, Tasmania)

Nick and Chris (Preston, Victoria)

Johanna Griggs, the presenter of Better Homes and Gardens, is herself a keen home renovator, currently building her fourth home with husband, builder Todd Huggins.
