Merrick Watts sells Lilyfield warehouse to Cherie Barber
The mystery buyer of comedian Merrick Watts' inner west Sydney warehouse has emerged as the renovation queen Cherie Barber.
There were initial $7 million price expectations, adjusted down to $6 million plus.
It was snapped up prior to its scheduled auction.
The 1920s Lilyfield space had been a warehouse for the Oh Boy Candy Company nearly a century ago.
Watts, best remembered part of the comedy duo Merrick and Rosso, paid $2.1 million in 2008 for the two storey showroom, with sawtooth roofing.
He commissioned architect Virginia Kerridge to turn the 900 sqm warehouse in to a grand family home for himself, his now wife Georgie and their two kids.
Following its 2012 completion, the four bedroom family home won two RAIA Awards.
The marketing advised buyers it was offered with a short term lease back proposed.
Barber, the founder of Renovating for Profit, previously had an inner-west Leichhardt 1890s house bought for $950,000 in 2008 and sold in 2015 for $3.06 million.
