Oakfield, the 1830s Mudgee district property with olive grove, has been listed for sale.

It last traded when bought by the Moon family for $2.1 million in 2007 from the former Westfield executives Ian Newton and Judy Hall.

The 40-hectare holding is on Lue Road at Lawsons Creek, four kilometres east of Mudgee.

The restored colonial house, surrounded by English-style garden and herb patch, was part of a land grant in the early 1800s to Lieutenant William Lawson.

The homestead has high ceilings and polished timber floors in large rooms.

The property first sold in 1850 to Alexander Cox, remaining with the Cox family until 1965.

The grounds have a studio, a separate indoor pool, tennis court and a nine-hectare olive grove.

It once had a vineyard as it was among the properties held by Wyndham Estate wineries until sold in the late 1980s.

It’s been listed by Trent Robertson at the Mudgee agency Peter Druitt & Co in conjunction with Webster Nolan agent David Nolan who are taking offers until April 5.

The gardens are complemented by sculptures by Tom Bass, the late father of horticulturalist Belinda Moon.
