Technology pioneer Daniel Petre and his wife Carolyn are swapping Lavender Bay trophy homes.

The former Microsoft executive has bought Villa Medusa from the wine exporter Graham Cranswick-Smith through McGrath's Claudia Portale for $8 million.

They have now listed Alta Mura with more than $7 million hopes through Belle Property.

The 1886 trophy mansion was bought in 2011 for $6.4 million from Clive Steirn, SC, and his wife Marilyn.

The purchase came after they sold their former home in Killara for a suburb record of $11.5 million.

Villa Medusa is in the Versace style.
