Finance columnist Trevor Sykes grabs extra $80k in Woollahra home sale

Trevor Sykes, the veteran finance columnist, knocked back $2.72 million when his Woollahra period home was auctioned early yesterday, but it sold for $80,000 more in time for lunch.

It was offered through Debbie Donnelley of Phillips Pantzer Donnelley who secured bidding from two parties.

The three bedroom, two bathroom was listed as he has found a spacious apartment in nearby Double Bay.

Skyes, once editor of the now defunct The Bulletin magazine, has owned the Bathurst Street home on a 322 sqm corner block since 2001.

Built in the early 1900s by Edward Harkness in a Victorian Gothic style, Sykes paid $1.33 million for the home in 2001 with Deece Giles makeover behind the gabled facade.

There is a basement wine cellar.
