Outback crime drama Mystery Road director Rachel Perkins couldn’t sell her Federation cottage at Bondi Beach when it went to weekend auction.

There was drama when the only bidder upped the offer from $2.3 million to $2.4 million. A young boy with the bidding couple then burst into tears as he didn’t want to move from his nearby abode.

Danielle Gillespie at Belle Property had a $3 million guide on the home, which Perkins had paid $1.5 million in 2010 with her then husband and fellow filmmaker Richard McGrath.

Perkins has spent $2.2 million on a three-bedroom Leichhardt park-side home.
