The South Yarra home of Melbourne developer Michael Yates and wife Lou has been bought by Renee Bittar, clinical psychologist and managing director of Precision Brain, Spine and Pain Centre.

The five bedroom mansion on Walsh Street fetched around $11 million, less than the $12 million-plus price guidance it had when first listed last September.

There's suggestions it originally came with off-market of $15 million.

Yates's 1930s home sits on an 800-square-metre site near the Botanic Gardens.

The house was likely sold by Kay and Burton, just days after Yates had commissioned the Marshall White agency to take the house to late March auction.

Yates paid $1.73 million in 1997 for the house that was renovated by the late interior designer Stuart Rattle. The South Yarra mansion was on the market for around five months.
