David Vella and wife Marise Watson, the creators behind Newtown's Cipher Room, have traded up in the suburb.

The couple, who set up the popular King Street games venue in 2016, have spent $2.3 million on a nearby terrace.

The family home on 470 square metre has five bedrooms, two renovated bathrooms and a large backyard.

It was offered for the first time in 18 years through Ray White Petersham agent Nicholas Arena.

The couple sold their former 1900s Pearl Street terrace for $1.4 million.

Watson is a massive gamer and a former website designer and magazine writer.

One of the Cipher Room's escapes is called Espionage, which takes players back to 1945 where gamers have to unravel clues to solve the mystery of a missing World War II agent.
