Chef and gardener Annie Smithers lists in Malmsbury

Famed chef and gardener Annie Smithers has listed her long-held Malmsbury home.

The owner of the Du Fermier, a popular French-style cafe in Trentham, bought the home with a prosperous garden in mind.

However, the garden had only previously managed to nurture a gum tree in its 100 year history.

The home now comes with a flourishing garden, which Smithers said produces fruit and vegetables that would have a shop value of around $50,000 a year.

A studio which could offer a bedroom sits in the large vegetable garden and orchard toward the rear of the 1,093 sqm parcel.

The main homestead with grey and white exterior blends Edwardian with contemporary.

It has three bedrooms and a timber-floored living and dining room which opens to the garden.

Biggin Scott agents Tom Shaw and Michael DeVincentis have set an April 22 auction date.
