Brighton's John Horbury Hunt Spurling House sold
Brighton's 1888 Spurling House, the only known Victorian property designed by the Sydney architect John Horbury Hunt, has been sold.
The American-style property at 38 Black Street fetched $2.4 million. It last traded at $180,000 in 1981.
It is in the heart of Middle Brighton on a 1,000 square metre block, originally known as Purno when built in 1888 by the Canadian-born architect who was commissioned by Miss Spurling.
The three-bedroom plus study property features distinctive brickwork and shingle-cladding characteristic of Hunt's work.
Peter Kennett of hockingstuart had expected $2.4 million plus.
