Asking house prices slip in Perth, Darwin: SQM Research

Asking house prices slip in Perth, Darwin: SQM Research
Staff ReporterNovember 29, 2016
The asking price for houses rose nationwide in November except Perth and Darwin according to SQM Research.

SQM Research managing director Louis Christopher said the downturn in Perth and Darwin is a reflection of the mining industry.

"Hobart's prices too have slipped back in November after a very strong run this year," he said.

"Year-on-year, growth in asking prices is still high in Hobart, as well as Melbourne, which now leads the nation for growth in asking prices for houses.

Notably, asking prices for Brisbane units are down over the year and with SQM Research predicting some oversupply in 2017, downward pressure is likely to remain on unit prices there and could extend to Sydney and Melbourne with some oversupply of units predicted in 2017 and 2018."
